Breeding Mini Horses

Four hundred years of selective breeding have brought what is now known as the American miniature horse. It wasn't until 1888, however, that evidence of these smaller versions of the equine species are referred to in the United States. From then until 1960, not much mention was made of mini horses, much less breeding mini horses, but since then progress has been exponential in terms of both awareness and proliferation. It is believed generally that what are now American miniature horses for sale have ancestry in English and Dutch mines of the 19th century. Additionally, the American miniature draws on bloodlines of the Shetland pony. Used variously for royal gifts, research and pets, these animals are proportional to their sizes and possess beauty of form and elegance of movement in addition to being congenial in personality and quite versatile.
